Jessica reavis started this petition to North Carolina State House and

The judges, prosecutors, and police take an oath to honor the constitutional rights of the citizens.  Today, they are not honoring the constitution including even the fundamental and God given rights.

All speech is protected by the 1st amendment including hurtful or bias speech.  Just because it offends someone or something for whatever reasons, it cannot be stiffled and should not be.

The second amendment of the constitution is a fundamental right that is absolute in it's meaning and it not negotiable... "shall not be infringed." Today in 2021, the supreme court is still trying to interpret this meaning and then the state courts go against the Supreme court and its landmark decisions.  The state courts interpret it how "they seem fit." The state of North Carolina even goes against its own state constitution to regulate the second amendment while the 1st amendment is being employed in nc§14-277.2, while the police do not protect the citizens always.

Sadly, time and time again, the state of North Carolina allows political and social groups to mold the courts decisions in many cases that come before it's judges.  Because of the political power of the district attorneys, some of these cases never even make it to the judge.  I think the district attorneys are given way to much power over the court system.

Unfortunately while this is evident, some cases again because of political influences, are drug out in court and they tend to make criminals out of good people.  This for obvious reasons destroys the lives of many people, literally turning their life upside down.  Even if the person is found not guilty, the damage has been done and this persons life will never be the same.  The district attorneys and police never suffer.  They are protected by qualified immunity which needs to pass it's shelf life and be reformed to make state actors (district attorneys and police) suffer when they wrong United States citizens and their lives.  This can be done without defunding but instead more training so they can know the consequences they face when dealing with the public.  This needs to be done throughout the United States.

The 14th amendment was set in place to instruct the states to insure equal protection under the law and not selective prosecutions like those that have  taken place in Orange and Chatham counties.  The North Carolina judical system has failed this amendment repeatedly due in part by the bias district attorneys withholding evidence and insuring regardless the innocence of the defendants, they must not lose. They are awarded inncentives and promotions in which is wrong.

North Carolina also does not honor the right to a speedy trial.  Again, the time that takes place in the period of a case weighs heavy on the stability of one's life including mental and financial.

We need to remind the judicial system that they work for the people.  A judge or district attorney cannot be without bias when they work for the state that is trying to prosecute the individuals.  This needs to be addressed.  Uphold your oath to the constitution!!!
