PETITION TO LOWER THE VIABILITY POINT OF PREMATURE BABIES
This is a petition to lower the viability point of premature babies to 22 weeks of gestation, meaning that any baby with at least 22 weeks in the womb is guaranteed treatment at any hospital. My reasons are: it has been proven that babies have been able to survive with as little as 22 weeks in the womb, medical technology is rapidly advancing, and many hospitals are denying treatment for extremely premature babies. In 1995 survival rates of babies born at 22 weeks was 1 percent and babies born at 23 weeks had an 11 percent survival rate. Now in 2015 the survival rates of these babies have increased with babies born at 22 weeks surviving at an astonishing 23 percent and babies born at 23 weeks now have a 30 percent survival rate. This shows how rapidly technology is improving and that the viability point should be lowered because babies are able to survive earlier as technology improves.
If you agree that the viability point of premature babies should be lowered to 22 weeks of gestation please sign and support!
