A soft reopening for North Carolina Dance Studios prior to Phase 3

0 have signed. Let’s get to 25,000!

This is a petition to request that all dance studios receive an exemption that would allow a soft reopening on June 1st, 2020. Studios should be allowed to open with restrictions in place.

Thousands of studios were forced to close their businesses and post pone or cancel recitals. This has had a tremendous negative impact on the entire industry nationwide. Many teachers and studio owners do not meet the standards for unemployment, and both the EIDL and PPP loans are gone. Over 75% of our income for the Summer months when we are not working stems from our recitals, and without the ability to hold these events we will surely have to close our doors indefinitely.

We are suggesting the following guidelines, restrictions and recommendations.

Guidelines for teachers:

*No use of ballet barres or props of any kind.

•Wash hands, and use sanitizer before each class.

•No reading material or self serve food/beverages.

*Parents are to drop off and pick up only.

*Class sizes limited to sq foot of room. 1 person per 100 sq feet of space.

*Temperature checks at door.

*15 min gap between classes for sanitizing, and safely transitioning.

*Sanitize door handles between classes.

* Teachers to wear masks and maintain safe  distancing.

Restrictions for dancers/parents:

•Must not have anyone in the household that has traveled to any major hot spots  for 14 days.

•Must be fever-free and symptom free for a complete 72 hours.

•No parents in the lobby. Clients need to wait in their cars until previous clients have left. Teachers will be at each entrance before and after class.

Recommendations for clients:

•Wash hands immediately before and after classes

•Wear masks during classes

*No bare feet. Proper footwear at all times.

Allow us to safely get back to work, as soon as possible, to save our businesses, and boost morale of our clients. There are too many people feeling defeated and alone. We make a difference, the arts do matter. For many of these kids, dance is the only positive outlet they have. Many of us have been conducting online classes and we can visibly see the stress and anxiety on our dancers faces! They need the social interaction and opportunity to Dance with their peers and we are willing to do the work and take the necessary precautions to provide that for them. Let us open our doors and continue our passion June 1st ,2020
