Aylin Bal started this petition to North Carolina General Assembly and

According to the G.S. 100-2.1 statute, it “requires that objects of remembrance on public property cannot be removed or relocated except in certain circumstances.” Roy Cooper has expressed his opinion on removing confederate statues in N.C.  in 2017. We cannot have monuments of white supremacists up because of a broad statute declaring all historical objects should automatically be up, regardless of its historical significance; as long as it’s history, it should be shown/remembered. These confederate statutes represent and glorify political and military leaders who treated the black people like dirt. Please sign this petition so the N.C. General Assembly changes this statute, passed in 2015. Racism is a “special circumstance”; it threatens lives and civil rights. However, we cannot always go to special circumstances to take down a historical object; If there is an opposition, it must be taken into consideration.
