Texas People started this petition to North Carolina Association of Educators

NCAE's mission statement and vision are as follows:

Mission Statement-
"To be the voice of educators in North Carolina that unites, organizes and empowers members to be advocates for education professionals, public education and children."

Vision-
"An equitable, quality public education for every child."

As the leader of thousands of teachers across North Carolina, it has become abundantly clear our voices are discounted and disregarded. Amidst a pandemic, we have been clearly and consistently abandoned by the state. Teachers and their families are dying across the state and the implicit message is we are expendable. We are not.

In addition to our very lives being offered for sacrifice, North Carolina teachers also have terrible pay, benefits, no incentive to pursue higher degrees, because the state doesn't reward higher education in the teaching field. New teachers won't even qualify for retirement benefits. Make no mistake, this is a job, not a career if you teach in North Carolina.

How NCEA is failing on their Mission Statement and Vision is as follows:

Mission Statement: We have no voice, we are not united, and we are not empowered as professionals. This trickled down into the outcomes of students before the pandemic. It will now be a raging torrent, as thousands of teachers across the state are fed up with being treated like expendable garbage and leave the profession they love.

Vision: An equitable, quality public education isn't achievable when the state's decisions lead to teacher's experiencing burn out, general anxiety, terrible benefits, which will ultimately lead to high turnover, especially in underserved communities.

Solution and Call to Action:

We petition NCAE to organized, mobilize, and set a firm date for an extended teacher walkout. Obviously, one-day walkouts by teachers have done nothing. The status quo of actions taken by NCAE has gotten us exactly where we are, which is nowhere good. We request that a plan of action is developed and disseminated to all teachers in North Caroliina, so they can choose to collectively work together to change the status quo. We need you to unite, organize, and empower us as your mission statement says to walk out for as long as necessary to accomplish the following: collective bargaining, better pay and benefits for veteran and new teachers, safe working conditions, and an actual voice in the legislative process. We ask that this plan of action is drawn up no later than March 15th and implemented by April 15. We've been waiting. We are done waiting.
