Stop the Closure of Isle of Arran Public Toilets

It was announced In March 2016 that North Ayrshire Council would close All 9 Public toilets on Arran in March 2017.  The council say they dont have a statutory obligation to provide human toilets but they do have a statutory right to provide dog poo bins and make dog poo bags available!

The toilets in Brodick, Lochranza, Sannox, Glen Sannox, Shiskine, Whiting Bay Village & Lamlash were all closed with Kilmory Hall, Corrie (new build), Sandbraes, Whiting Bay being adopted by local groups.

We think this is wrong and are starting this petition to show NAC how important these facilities are and to stop the closure and keep all of the 11 toilets open.

As a busy tourist Island Arran needs these public toilets which are a vital part of the infrastructure for tourists and locals alike on the island.  The council are asking people to use toilets in alternative locations such as public buildings and sports centre's, restaurants and shops.  This is impractical on Arran as there are very few of these in the rural Island locations of our toilets.

We believe visitor numbers and the economy would suffer on our beloved Island if these toilets were to close.  Please help us by signing this petition and sharing it as widely as you can.

This petition will be delivered to:
  • Leader, North Ayrshire Council
    Joe Cullinane
  • Chief Executive
    Elma Murray
