Why this petition matters

Started by melissa hess

It’s 2020... time for companies to start understanding the background of the term “midget” and it’s standing in the Little People (LP) community. This word was originated to demean LPs during the time they were used as entertainment. It was not a word created to describe sizes of object.

The norpak company is using “midget size” to describe a size of waxed paper used at delis, bakeries and in the food service industry. After multiple attempts to reach out to them, they still want to turn a blind eye to the offensive nature of this word. Even after multiple parties have addressed it with them. They think that since it’s their “trademark” it’s ok.

I never want my child, who has dwarfism, to be at the bakery, reaching for a cookie, and see this word on the box of waxed paper that is typically out for customer use. I never want her to feel mocked or less than because of a word. Especially when there is a multitude of other words they could use to describe size. Why must it be a word that thousands find offensive?
