Thomas Richardson started this petition to Norman Public Schools

I was recently attacked by another student and promptly acted in self-defence. I am being sentenced to serve 3 days of lunch detention, just for not wanting to be beaten. The Google Definition of "self-defence" is "the defence of one's person or interests, especially through the use of physical force, which is permitted in certain cases as an answer to a charge of violent crime". In this case, it means immobilizing a person if necessary. The people at Norman Public Schools need to realize that in the real world people act on self-defence almost every day. Who knows? maybe you'll be a victim one day and have to act defensively. You shouldn't get the same punishment as the offender. You don't ask to be a attacked, it happens and you don't have time to think, you either fight or risk the chance of being severely injured. There needs to be a new "policy" that defines and gives you the right to act in self-defence. If punishment is "required" it should be much less than the offender. If they keep in the ways, they are only teaching us that self-defence is just as bad a fighting. Just think, this could affect either you or friends and family.

Solutions to this can be and not limited to: 1)Less punishment than the offender. 2) NPS tells us how to react in a situation where self-defence may be necessary.
