Hevingham and Marsham Safer Road A140

Hevingham and Marsham are villages along the A140 road from Norwich to Cromer. The 50mph speed limit has not prevented a number of accidents, including fatalities, over the last few years. Parts of the village are located on the other side of the main road, including Hevingham Church and bus stops to Norwich. There are no crossings or islands, meaning pedestrians, including children, have to cross a 50mph road.
Norfolk County Council has previously informed us that there are not enough fatalities on this stretch of road to warrant a lower speed limit and yet there are other 40mph stretches of the A140 where there are no fatalities at all and less population. We find the need for more deaths to be an unacceptable condition.
We want to replace the 50mph stretch of road with 40mph. The cost will be the replacement of two signs. We do not want the cost to be another life before Norfolk County Council takes action.
Recent changes include the closure of one parallel road and the building of new houses mean that there will be an increase in traffic on this stretch of the A140, so it makes sense to slow the traffic down in this populated area.
