Samantha Dazey started this petition to Non Toxic Ladera Ranch and

We are at pivotal time in Ladera Ranch for our community. We need to clarify our focus with our Non-Toxic requirements. The goal here is for us to live in this community we love, Ladera Ranch, with the abundant acreage and play areas without our families and pets being at risk. Yes, at risk with allergies and rashes or more serious health challenges such as cancer and autoimmune disorders. We all have family members and or friends who have experienced these since living here in Ladera. Some things are not within our control. The use of toxic chemicals for weed and pest control need not be one of them, particularly when there are other healthier options available! We as homeowners expect and require that the appearance of our community (including but not limited to our landscape and amenities) does not put the health and well-being of our families at risk.
Some of the toxic chemicals currently being sprayed are Lifeline (Active Ingredient: "Glufosinate-Ammonium" that is linked with reproductive and developmental effects, is a neurotoxicant, and possible skin and eye irritant, as well as possible kidney, lungs, and blood toxicant), and Aluminum phosphide (AlP). The toxicity of AlP particularly affects the cardiac and vascular tissues, which manifest as profound and refractory hypotension, congestive heart failure and electrocardiographic abnormalities. Regrettably these are being used as substitutions for Glyphosate but are still highly toxic. There are numerous other chemicals we are being exposed to as well.
So it is left to us... as citizens, homeowners, and parents to push for healthier options.
The homeowners in our sister community, Rancho Mission Viejo, are deeply concerned about these toxic materials being sprayed into our air, land, and water, and have a separate petition. We are working together since our landscape issues can affect one another. You and your family can still be affected if chemicals are not sprayed on your street. Pesticides have been shown to drift for miles and persist in indoor carpet fibers for a year and after they are tracked inside. The U.S Geological Survey found that "After they are applied, many pesticides volatilize into the lower atmosphere, a process that can continue for days, weeks, or months after the application, depending on the compound. In addition, pesticides can become airborne attached to wind-blown dust."
SIGN THIS PETITION for Ladera Ranch Residents and neighboring communities affected can let LARMAC and any partner therein providing support or services to our community that we require these measures to be nurturing, organic, and non-toxic to our community and families
1) Cease immediate spraying of synthetic hazardous pesticides and implement organic ones.
2) Perform additional test pilots with different/new organic experts on landscaping to assess soil and provide road-map for organic landscaping maintenance.
3) Transition to organic landscaping maintenance.
4) Provide signage when spray application is made through transition period if synthetics are used.
5) STOP spraying if humans or pets are walking by and wait until greater than 50 yards away.
6) Include information on Ladera Life website for all areas of Ladera Ranch that are sprayed including but not limited to homes, town-homes, apartment complexes, sport parks, etc.
7) List all the chemicals the pool maintenance company uses and their schedule to be included in Ladera Life website. Create the healthiest option possible to maintain the safety of our pools, splash pads, and waterpark with hand pulling of weeds in all such areas instead of spraying.
8) All vendors/partners including O'Connell must provide LARMAC a list of where and when they plan to spray well in advance to spraying and be included in the Ladera Life website posting.
We ask that all Residents of Ladera sign this petition and even those of close neighborhoods such as Rancho Mission Viejo as we are all impacted with the "drift". When we know better we can do better. Let's make sure that our community is a healthy one for the future of all our families.
