Agnostos Theos started this petition to NOBEL PEACE PRIZE COMMITTEE (The Nobel Foundation P.O. Box 5232, SE-102 45 Stockholm, Sweden)

The farmers in India have been protesting against 3 laws introduced by the Government of India for almost 6 months. 3 months in the state of Panjaab and 100+ days on the roads of the borders of New Delhi, the capital of India.

The govt introduced the bills in midst of a pandemic and questions were raised on how they got them passed in the parliament that too without debate and discussion. Farmers  were angry that no discussions were held with them and an expert's committee report was also not implemented instead bills which they felt were against them were brought in. After failed attempts over months to get the govt to listen to them they decided to move to Delhi and start an agitation.

The farmers faced countless hardships, hurdles and violence at the hands of the state governments on their way to Delhi borders. Meetings bore no fruit and to escalate their voice the farmers announced a parallel rally on India's Republic Day on 26th of January. Things didn't go as per plan and their peaceful rally was sabotaged by some elements with vested interests. It almost seemed like a trap which the farmers walked right into.

Many media channels misrepresented the facts of the incident with an intention to turn public sentiment against the farmers and create hatred for them. They were successful in doing so. Following this mobs of the ruling party were unleashed on the farmers under police protection and as they threw stones on farmers and fought with them, the police remained a mute spectator. Farmers who resisted and many others were arrested and beaten mercilessly in open and in jails.

There was an environment of fear and hatred which was created and mass scale violence and carnage was almost certain. Sikhs were being targetted and hate messages were being circulated all around. Sikhs have already faced a pogrom in India in 1984, perpetrators of which still roam around free. The right wing extremists were calling openly for a repeat of 1984. But this genocide of 2021 would have included farmers of other religions as well.

However just at the right moment international celebrities, human rights activists, politicians and humanitarian's, like Rihanna, Meena Harris, Amanda Cerny, Greta Thunberg, Susan Surandon etc tweeted about the farmers protest leading to global attention and outrage.

Not only did they bring the much needed international attention to the farmers protests but saved countless lives.

Had it not been for the courage and prompt action of these amazing brave women, god only knows how many innocent lives could have been lost and how many hundreds and thousands could have been put behind bars for years. Generations would have been left with scars and hate in them alongwith other issues which come with an incident of this sort.

These women saved lives, ensured a peaceful agitation got attention and overall violence was avoided.

And for this reason on this International women's day I request the Nobel Peace Prize committee its members to nominate and confer Rihanna, Vanessa Nakate, Leah Namugerwa, Jamie Margolin, John Cusack, Elizabeth Wathuti, Claudia Webbe MP, Licy Priya K, Meenakshi Ganguly, Disha Ravi, British Vogue and others who took this bold step with the Nobel Peace Prize 2021.
