Nobody is in doubt that the minority Royingya Muslims in Myanmar are facing ethnic cleansing, or rather, genocide on account only of their faith and social affiliation.
Leaders from across the globe have condemned what is going on in Myanmar. Recently, 13 Nobel Peace Laureates signed an open letter condemning the massacre of the minority group and raising alarm over "a potential genocide".
Interestingly, Myanmar's leader herself is a nobel price laureate having been so honoured in 1991. Disturbingly, however, Aung San Suu Kyi, has persistently refused to condemn this carnage let alone take a decisive step to stop the killing of a people simply because of their faith.
She has refused to even accept that what is going on in her country is ethnic cleansing. She has been adamant in her refusal to denounce the recent military crackdown which killed many and displaced thousands despite international pressure to so.
SILENCE in this situation is NOT GOLDEN. It is a clear endorsement of what is happening in Myanmar. IT IS CRIMINAL. MS. Suu Kyi's loud silence is not only alarming, but also a shame on other holders of this prestigious peace prize. Ms. Suu Kyi doesn't deserve being referred as "Noble Peace Laureate" anymore.
We call on the Nobel Committee to rescind Ms. Suu Kyi's peace prize so as to save the face of the award, other Laureates, dead and alive, and send a strong message to the world. Further, this action will resonate with Alfred Nobel's original intention.
