No to food Vendors who prepare and serve to public from seasonal kiosk
We are the business owners and operators of Byward Market Square and most of us operate a business that sells food to customers that consume it immediately or take it home.
We are the businesses that survived the pandemic and many of us have been serving Ottawa Byward Market, especially Market Square, for decades.
It has come to our attention that there are temporary vendor(s) setting up or ready to setup who are going serve food to go or to consume immediately. We strongly oppose to this. Our request to the Marché d’Ottawa and City of Ottawa is that these seasonal and temporary food vendors are not permitted to operate in the Byward Market.
It has been very difficult last the few years for our business and we are worried sick thinking about our future as food service industry. It is our intention to work hard and bring out our best, we are dedicated to our business as we are permanently structured year around. Needless to say summer months are the few crucial months for our survival. It is our request that you help us as these few months brings us most of our revenue. Please see that these vendors are relocated anywhere but Byward Market. We hope you understand that our business has permanent fixed overhead that includes city, provincial, federal taxes and fees. We welcome an alternative solution to this matter which does not include the temporary food vendors in the Byward market this year or any future year.
