Why this petition matters

Started by Peg Gordon

The Ada, Ohio community has nearly 16 churches that serve the small community. There are dozens more that are also within distance for Ada families to worship in. As in most churches, Bible schools and other religious teachings are part of the service of the church.

Due to the small size of the community and because of its diverse culture, Christian, Hindu, Muslim, and Jewish faiths within it, a religious class is not only unnecessary but also devisive in its nature.

There has been talk about Lifewise Academy being brought into the Ada school district. This program would have students "opt out" of special courses such as music, art, physical education, or computers. We are in a time when the "specials" school curriculum is under constant threat of being cut even while understanding that these special courses are very important to the educational foundation of students.

Not only will an edition of a Christian religious course take away from current important curriculum, it, as stated above, creates a devisiveness with community members who are not of that faith.

I urge the Ada community to use its voice and tell the Ada School Board to leave Christian education for the churches.
