Even if I had never walked alone the Thames path from Reading Bridge to Sonning, I would not agree with this proposal. I know how heavily polluted the air in East Reading, especially around Cemetery Junction , but to add to the traffic is no solution. I suggest reviving the park and ride from the cinema site at Winnersh, from years ago. The new MRT scheme will encourage more road users to use it as a through road, thus adding to pollution and destroying what habitue is remaining. I have only happy memories of walking along the footpath (being bowled over by cyclists being the exceptions) and wish that my grandchildren can continue the tradiation.
The Thames waterside and all natural areas need protecting. They are precious. I was born and lived in Reading for many years and the River has always provided sanctuary and a place of peace as well as an opportunity to learn about our wildlife and natural habitats.
The scheme contravenes multiple planning policies, and there are huge expanses of existing derelict parking spaces just a few hundred metres away at Thames Valley Park with buses already running there.
The other MRT routes in south Reading are barely used and the route through Thames valley park should not be close to the Thames. It looks ugly and will spoil , no ruin the area for future generations. Why not build a tunnel instead.
