IT'S TIME TO TAKE ACTION! PLEASE HELP US FIGHT FOR THE ANIMALS OF SAL, CAPE VERDE!
In the beginning of February a priest cruelly poisoned owned cats and dogs in the city of Espargos. This isn´t the first time this has happened. There have been several incidents were innocent animals have been killed for no reason. Cats and dogs have been poisoned, beaten to death, left to starve in the desert and even worse!
There is no Animal Protection Law whatsoever in Sal.
What will happen to the priest who poisoned all these innocent animals?
Nothing, absolutely nothing.
What happened to the restaurant owner who beat a cat to death publicly in the middle of the day? Nothing, absolutely nothing.
What happened to the pick up that toured the island last year loaded with live goats and sold them on the street, cutting their throat there at that moment on the public street, as soon as the buyer had chosen what he wanted? Nothing, absolutely nothing.
Does this sound right? No? Then take a minute to sign to share our petition and ask your friends to sign it too!
Let us remember that it starts with animal abuse and then ....
it is unacceptable that the municipality of Sal is unable to draft a law that punishes criminally and financially those who take into their own hands to harm animals.
At the end of the February the Mayor said he was willing to arrange a meeting with the association Save Cats and Dogs of Cape Verde in order to share experiences and opinions and the association may propose to the next public assembly (in 2 months) a law for animal protection. To make sure that this actually happens, we need your help!
We ask your help and sign and share this petition and also to involve as many friends as possible! Please be the voice for the voiceless, stand up for the innocent animals and take action NOW!

We have to use Portuguese as it is an official language in Cape Verde. The text in English is the following:
"Law for Animal Protection:
I support the neutering and treatment campaigns for the cats and dogs of Sal. It has come to my knowledge an absurd incident that happened in Espargos: A priest poisoned several dogs and cats in three different areas of the city.
Those dogs were sterilized and treated during the campaigns sponsored by me. By doing this lives were crushed in a horrible way our efforts to help dogs and cats through neutering campaigns have also been rendered useless. I have also become to know that in Sal and in Cape Verde there are no laws protecting animals.
I have been informed by the association Save Cats and Dogs of Cape Verde that the Mayor said he was available for a meeting in order to (prepare) draft a local law within the next public assembly. I am hopeful that this law will be approved as soon as possible because without this law anyone may feel free to commit atrocities on animals without any consequences what so ever.
The current situation is unacceptable and unbearable for a country that is among the first countries in Africa when it comes to modernisation! If the situation in Sal remains unchanged without a proper animal protection law it will be impossible for me to continue to support the neutering campaigns. Also I could certainly not think of spending my vacations or buy property on an island where anyone can handle dangerous poisons and kill innocent animals. It will also be in my interest to inform as many people as possible about this.
In hope that, if not for the animals at least for tourism, you manage to draft an Animal Protection Law as soon as possible. "
