Did you know that about 70% of the oxygen we breathe is produced by the oceans? We depend on it for life as well as many other living creatures. Plastic bags can smother corals and other seabed communities. When plastic bags end up in our oceans, animals (including seals, dolphins and seabirds) can get tangled up in them and turtles mistake them as jelly fish and try to eat them.

With the rise of single use plastic, we should be urging large companies to switch from plastic bags to sustainable paper bags that can be recycled. Reuse-able bags are awesome and do make a difference but urging large companies to make a change will make a larger impact.  Companies continue to put the responsibility on the consumer by urging us to recycle yet they are not making good on their own recycling pledges and just keep producing more plastic than ever! It's time to focus on the reduction of plastic for good!

This issue affects everyone, not just sea life.We are becoming an endangered species because of our own doing.  Our dollar speaks louder than you think and by letting companies charge us a 5 cent tax for plastic bags is saying "this is ok". We have the technology to make a sustainable change. Please sign and educate others.
