No Money for New Guns to Phoenix Police Department

No Money for New Guns to Phoenix Police Department

Phoenix Police is the deadliest department in the United States. On November 29, Phoenix Police shot and killed a resident, bringing their total to 41 shootings by officers and 21 people killed in 2018. Phoenix Police has surpassed the LAPD, NYPD and Chicago PD for officer involved shootings. Despite this growing epidemic of police violence, on Wednesday, December 5, Phoenix Police will be requesting nearly a million dollars for more guns. This is in addition to a yearly budget that will surpass $700 million in 2019.
We demand that City Council freeze all additional funding to the Phoenix Police until community approved measures for transparency and accountability are adopted by the Phoenix Police Department. Do not continue to blindly fund this department. More money to the Phoenix Police will only lead to more harm for our communities. We need mental health services, street lights, fixed potholes, and regular garbage pick-up, not more police guns in the streets.
