H.3319, the School Lunch Act is currently in committee and has been since April 7, 2021. This bill will require schools to provide the same meals to students even if they are eligible for free/reduced lunch or have any outstanding lunch balances. Furthermore, this bill will prohibit schools from penalizing students from participating in school activities such as graduation, field trips, or awards day because of their lunch debts. If this bill is not passed, students will continue being publicly marginalized and endure lunch shaming every day they attend school. Your signature in support of this bill will assist MSW students with advocating for this bill to move forward and ultimately provide all students with equal meals regardless of their family's financial standing with their schools.
