Christchurch City Council New Zealand has constantly come up with excuses for not building Te Kaha Stadium.  I am annoyed with the Christchurch City Council and their incompetence and lack of leadership from current and pervious Chief Executive Officers and previous and current City Councillors. Christchurch City Council costs of items rise in price. Its basic economics. The cost of the stadium would not have gone up $150 million if it had been built by now.

Te Kaha Stadium was suppose to be built by 2017. However due to Christchurch City Council requesting consultation after consultation along with many other excuses they seem to come up with Te Kaha has still not been built 11 years on rugby fans like myself are still having to travel to a suburban area which does not have the parking or road infrastructure to support large crowds on a regular basis. 

I attend the sub par venue at Addington. To show my support the sports teams who represent our proud region of Canterbury and other regions which are connected to professional sports teams like the Crusaders. I am there no matter the weather.  There are many people in Canterbury cannot attend games in person at Addington because the could become unwell from being in the freezing cold for too long. No matter how many layers of warm clothing they put on. 

I grew up near the Christchurch's beloved Lancaster Park which was in one of the cities lowest income areas. Attending an event at Lancaster Park was a rite of passage for many Cantabs With Lancaster Park sadly destroyed on 22nd of February 2011. I loved growing up near the stadium I never felt living in low income area I was missing out on any of the action when I was not inside Lancaster Park. I remember speaking to many people who were volunteers at the games just to raise much needed funds for their sports club. Sadly that has not been able to happen.  Post Earthquake and during this covid19 pandemic living in Christchurch has been mentally tough. 

Christchurch has been missing out on major events for long enough. This is mostly due to no world class indoor venue which can hold more than 8,000 people. If Christchurch does not have an indoor stadium big enough to host artists like U2 or major sporting teams like the Golden State Warriors as well as the All Blacks on a regular basis.

Te Kaha Stadium needs to be built to create short term and long term jobs for the people of Christchurch and more businesses will go under.

Please sign this petition to show the leaders of the Christchurch City Council to force them to stop the paper trail for Te Kaha which is not achieving the  goal of getting Te Kaha built.

I will be attending every public meeting on Te Kaha to get it completed.
