No more children left unattended in cars
No more children left unattended in cars
Why this petition matters
As of today, only 21 states have laws that specifically address children being left alone in cars. According to data from finder.com, nearly one thousand children in the U.S. die every year from being left alone in a car. As of current, there are no federal laws that prevent an adult from leaving a child in a car unattended. While there are "hot car" laws in some states, not all follow suit. Additionally, there are child endangerment laws that enforce a safe environment for children, but even if these children are in a car with air conditioning and the windows down, the mechanics of the car may fail and their lives could be at risk. It is essential that born children are protected under law, and they should not be put in harms way. This petition is calling for the U.S. federal government to put in place a law that prevents children from being left unattended in a car. If this becomes a bill and then a law, less children will die from being unattended in a car each year, and those that unfortunately do will have justice.
