On behalf of nearly the entire student body within the University of Missouri, we are tired. The whole last year of our lives was ruined due to dehumanizing Covid-19 guidelines. To reintroduce mask mandates on campus and in classrooms is pure tyranny. Not to mention, it is completely unfair that this announcement was "coincidentally" made right after we all paid our tuition bills. Some of us may have decided a different route for our education if we had known that our own university would once again immorally impose such mandates; I personally would've rather given my money to a school that believes in choice. We should be allowed to make our own decisions about our own health; it is called personal autonomy. Rather than taking away our freedoms again, give us choice. People who are scared of the virus should be allowed the option to pursue online classes. People who want to wear a mask can wear a mask. People who want to get vaccinated can get vaccinated. We complied for a whole year, and clearly compliance has made this a perma-demic rather than a pandemic. We will no longer comply; instead we are fighting back. There is a reason that the curve was successfully flattened in states and areas with no mask mandates. The science stands behind us: MAKE MASKS A CHOICE. NO MORE MASK MANDATES.
