In a County with over 40,000 people at the last censes count, we have triple that amount of animals in each household. This combination of low income, rural employment, and a strong animal husbandry tradition results in a number of the county's animals being neglected, abandoned and otherwise suffering beyond what is tolerable in a civil society.
However government agencies have not taken on this problem in the county, preferring to leave it to The Nourishing Hand Equine Rescue/Sanctuary and Pet Food Bank (only such org. in the county besides Keystone Animal Rescue) who is vitally important in Okanogan County. They are well trained and suited to the task. They are trained and committed and they have a well thought out program in place.
Animal neglect and abuse HURTS us all !
