The Allen County commissioners decided the new home of the county jail will be on the property at 5080 Adams Center Road. This is within a mile of three schools, and several residential neighborhoods. The southeast section of Fort Wayne has been neglected for years. The lack of restaurants, movie theaters, fresh produce markets, hospitals or medical facilities, have been concerns voiced loudly for decades, to limited or no progress. What message is our city and county government trying to convey to the southeast side of the city? They are not worthy of said amenities, but suitable for a jail. Why can't the new jail be located on the campus of the old Irene Byron Center? They housed the Work Release Center there for years. It's 70 acres of prime land, that the city/county is trying to sell. Is that area too good for the new jail? We're asking the residents of southeast Fort Wayne as well as all residents of the city of Fort Wayne to sign this petition to stop the new jail from being built in southeast Fort Wayne/Allen County.
