Georgia Power is asking the Ga Public Service Commission for a $3 billion  rate hike that will raise our electric bills 45% in 2023. 

This new request follows a $1 billion rate hike that went into effect in 2020-2021. That rate hike was larger than the next 10 utilities combined. 

Why does Ga Power want so much money? Because the Plant Vogtle nuclear expansion underway since 2009 is sucking money to the tune of $200 million per month. Ga Power wants to continue to deliver shareholder wealth while building the most expensive power plant ever built on earth.

IF WE DON’T STOP THEM GEORGIANS WILL BE PAYING THE HIGHEST ELECTRIC BILLS IN THE NATION!! We already are in the top 5 states for highest electric bills despite being in the bottom 10 for cost of living.

The Ga Public Service Commission is supposed to be a check on monopoly power and is required to protect the public interest. But they aren't. TELL THEM TO DO THEIR JOBS.

What you can do

Next Tuesday & Wednesday Nov. 8 & 9, the Ga PSC will hear expert testimony and public comment. The public comment period is from 9 – 10 am. Come down to the commission and tell commissioners what you think. It is their job to protect Ga Power customers from monopoly abuse. Are they doing that? (Note: No).
