Corey Bartlette threw a homemade explosive at a person named Ron Turnboo, a homeless man, on New Year's Eve, blowing the lower 1/3 of his arm off. The young men fled from the scene, leaving this man with a missing arm, and several leg wounds, to walk all the way across town to St. John's Medical Center in the middle of the night, with temperatures well below freezing, because he had no phone to call 911.
The incident took place right outside of Secret Ink where Corey Bartlette and the group which included his girlfriend were at while she was getting a tattoo. They were having a small get together where Corey was drinking. They were outside smoking when Corey rolled the bomb right to Ron’s direction. Ron tried to kick it away and couldn't so that’s when he picked it up to throw it and it exploded, blowing his hand off. Corey Bartlette laughed about it and was told to leave the shop. He got in his car drunk and took off leaving his girlfriend at the shop *Secret Ink) where he later returned to get her. One of Corey's friend's himself told his own father that Corey has done this before, throwing random fireworks and bombs at random people’s house as driving by with him (the son) in the vehicle.
Corey Bartlette, 25 of Longview, admitted to throwing the bomb, has been apprehended by Longview Police and is currently out on bail awaiting arraignment. Upon arrival on foot to St. John's, Ron was transported to Portland for emergency amputation surgery.
The affidavit of probable cause states the perpetrator said he held the explosive infused tennis ball a few seconds to give Mr. Turnboo a show and then rolled it in his direction. A witness said that Corey Bartlette rolled the explosive hard in the direction of Mr. Turnboo. Mr. Turnboo tired to kick the bomb but picked it up presumably to throw it away from himself. When the bomb blew up in Mr. Turnboo's hand blowing it off the perpetrator, Corey Bartlette, laughed according to the witness. Then the coward drove away, leaving Mr. Turnboo to walk nearly a mile to the nearest hospital.
When Corey Bartlette was originally arrested by Longview Police Department, they had included an explosive charge and Assault in the second degree. Corey only turned himself in after he knew others were about to turn him in. We know this because of public Facebook posts made by people that know him. This coward claims it was an accident, yet he laughed and drove away and did not turn himself in until after it was obivious that his friends were about to turn him in themselves.
