No addiction recovery facility at 3430 Franklin Street Vancouver

Pacific Community Resources Society plans to put a youth addiction recovery program at 3430 Franklin Street Vancouver. There will be 5 person in care live in the house plus 24/7 onsite staff. City of Vancouver has issued a permit.

BUT, we already have enough drug and mental health related facilities in our neighborhood! Transition housing at 3475 Hastings St.(the former Ramada Hotel), mental health facility next to Adanac Park, 3 marijuana dispensaries on Hastings(between Cassiar and Boundary). This is too much for our neighborhood.

This addiction recovery program will be only 170 meters away from Franklin Elementary School. That would make the top end of the elementary school population (7 Graders) adjacent to the bottom end of the addiction recovery population. It happened before that kids as young as 12 can have addiction issues.

We have seen strange people walking around streets and back alleys, things stolen from back yards, car windows got smashed, dial-a-dopers showed up behind the transition housing, staff slashed at the marijuana dispensary. The safety of the neighborhood is deteriorating.

We don't want anymore of this!

We are here to show our strong opposition to this addiction recovery program in this neighborhood. We ask the City of Vancouver to reconsider/reevaluate the permit issued.
