Priyal Paroha started this petition to DEPARTMENT OF SCHOOL EDUCATION AND LITERACY INDIA and

This petition is not just for my children but for all children studying at Christ Church Co-Ed School in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

MHRD has prescribed weight limits for school bags. Despite this, rules are violated very casually. Should strict action not be taken against such schools? I request for an action against Christ Church School Co-Ed in Jabalpur for not adhering to government regulations.

Despite complaints, school takes no action to reduce heavy bag burden. Children fall off from stairs, complain of pain in shoulders but the school principal takes no action.

I had filed a complaint with Madhya Pradesh Child Rights Protection Commission (MPCPCR). The Commission found that the complaint was genuine after weighing bags at school. In January 2019, Collector and DEO at Jabalpur were asked to take action by MPCPCR but, nothing has been worked out yet.

When parents went to meet principal with a list of possible solutions in 2018, the school authorities forced parents out of premises in an insulting manner. Principal clearly denied to take any action stating "we make children strong", "I run an excellent school", "no other school is reducing burden, why should I?"

Do children get strong by carrying heavy bags to school? or, do they get strong with a balance of quality education and extra - curricular activities?

Knowledge cannot be imbibed by burdening children with numerous textbooks. School education should be fun for children and not a challenging task on a day-to-day basis.

I have filed this complaint with:

1) School authorities

2) Collector & DEO Jabalpur

3) CISCE Board

4) Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS)

5) Madhya Pradesh CM Helpline

6) MPCPCR

According to NDTV, "MHRD has also fixed the allowed weight limit for students. Weight of school bag of classes 1 and 2 students shall not exceed 1.5 Kg. The allowed weight of school bags for classes 3 to 5 students is 2-3 Kg, for classes 6 to 7 students is 4 Kg, for classes 8 to 9 students is 4.5 Kg, and for class 10 students is 5 Kg."

At Christ Church School, KG1 child carries 3.5 Kg bag, Class 1 child takes 4.5 Kg bag, Class 4 child has a burden of 7 Kg and a Class 7 child lifts an awesome 10 Kg till the second floor approximately.

The school authorities at the above mentioned school are rude. They don't answer calls, they hang up calls, don't let you into the school premises, peons and watchmen act as masters and staff treats parents impolitely. When we complain to principal he has the same attitude and boasts of that his school is 'the best!'.

I request everyone here to please help the children studying here by casting a vote for them. These kids are our future. Do not burden them beyond their capacity. Heavy school bags develop cervical issues and may develop long lasting negative effects.

I request for help in order to shape a smarter child and not a porter child!

Thank you
