Kierstyn Ferreira started this petition to Hackettstown Police Department James A. Macaulay and

There is a growing problem with a local Hackettstown, NJ business, "Soups on Main". Before Friday, April 9, 2021, I had not heard much about this place. However, that changed drastically this past Friday. As I walked by the business after leaving another local business just a few feet away, the numerous inflammatory signs in the windows of Soups on Main caught my attention. I peered into the window where the owner was hosting a gathering that appeared to violate the current mandates of Executive Order 234 signed by Governor Murphy on April 2, 2021; specifically, it was clear that the gathering was over capacity, not one person was wearing a mask and social distancing was not being enforced whatsoever. These patrons were huddled close together. To be clear, this will be factual and politics play no role in this matter. It may start with a violation of the COVID mandates, but it ends with borderline criminal behavior by way of stalking and harassment. This is about the safety and wellbeing of Hackettstown residents. Period.

So, after noticing me and assuming I was recording (which I would be well within my right if I were per the local police department and NJ Statute), a man who identified himself later as the owner ran out and began taunting me, threatening me and yelling at me for what he assumed were the reasons I was interested in his large gathering inside a small business. After several minutes of his ranting and raving, I was actually followed to my car by him and 3-4 of his male friends. They then surrounded my car, continuing to taunt me, and I had to ask them multiple times to move away so I can leave.

A complaint has been filed with HPD regarding this specific incident; however, this is NOT the first complaint. We must STOP this business and the owner from further harassment of Hackettstown residents who the owner and his patrons may assume do not agree with their views. They must stop chasing people outside to their cars, out of their restaurant and using intimidation and harassment to make themselves feel better about their lack of adherence to safety and the current guidelines. My story is just one of many as I have learned, as many people have reached out to me to tell me their story with this business. It is time to end this now.

In addition to the harassment and threatening behavior I experienced, this business proudly violates the Governor's Executive Orders based on their "personal freedom". They are quick to engage with anyone just so they can start a fight, record it and "pump their chests" as if they have won.

I am calling on the Warren County Department of Health to investigate the violations of Executive Order 234 and any other orders that may be relevant in this case. I am also calling on the agencies that have the power to investigate and possibly fine this business for their borderline criminal behavior towards patrons and non-patrons.

Finally, I encourage each resident who has experienced something like this to immediately file a complaint with Hackettstown Police Department. The more complaints on file, the better chance we have to end this local disaster of a "business" and end the behavior of an aggressive owner who uses intimidation and harassment against local residents, especially women.

A simple look at the reviews for Soups on Main tells a story, and the owner's response to negative comments are gaslighting at its finest. He uses his alleged "friendships" with local police to justify his aggression, intimidation and harassment of the local residents who he, once again, assumes do not agree with his views regarding COVID and beyond. This is not politics. THIS IS THE SAFETY OF HACKETTSTOWN RESIDENTS.

Let's end this right now and pressure these agencies to investigate and fine Soups on Main as they see fit.
