NJ Department of Education: Waive 180 day mandatory school days for State of Emergency closures

During a state of emergency, schools are required to close either by their township or the state. This mandatory closure should not count toward the school's scheduled "off" days during the year. Scheduled school breaks are designed to allow students to rest and revitalize during the school year. When a school is required to start using those days scheduled for a break to make up for emergency days, the students are not given a chance to revitalize which causes severe student burnout, inadequate learning and lower than expected achievement.
