NIU World Languages & Cultures Department: Offer FLCH 311 in Fall 2021

NIU World Languages & Cultures Department: Offer FLCH 311 in Fall 2021
Why this petition matters
After learning of the World Languages & Cultures Department's thoughts of postponing the FLCH 311 class, Advanced Conversational Chinese, until next year or later, many NIU students pursuing Chinese minors are concerned. This class is required to complete their minors, and some students will not be able to receive the minor they have worked towards for the last four years if they do not have the opportunity to take this class. Some students scheduled to graduate in Spring, 2022 will have internships so offering FLCH 311 in Fall semester is critical. We highly encourage the department to schedule FLCH 311 right after FLCH 202 because students will build upon 202’s lessons in advanced conversational Chinese class.
Many students have said their main reason for attending NIU is because NIU offers a Chinese Minor Certificate. Even for those who are not graduating next semester, the idea of the department continually pushing back the 311 class and possibly denying us the completion of our minor is worrying. We ask that the department put forth its greatest efforts to offer FLCH 311 course next semester, so that students who have already signed up for the minor (and possibly started to plan careers related to it) are able to complete before graduating from NIU.
