Dear Principal and Concerned Authorities,

Firstly, we would like to thank the management for considering the safety of its students and conducting an online mode of examination. But we final year students are disappointed with the exorbitant SEE examination fee and PDC fee which is 1300rs and 1000rs respectively. The reasons being:

1) The online conduction of exams requires the students to take care of various commodities such as arranging a system/laptop, uninterrupted internet connection, A4 sheets. Keeping them all in mind, this drastically cuts down the cost of printing question papers, answer booklets along with saving the time of teachers which otherwise the college should have incurred.  It is observed that we are paying the same exam fee as that paid for last year’s offline exam. The examination fee is capped at Rs 1300 for us.

2) On enquiring the VTU helpline we got to know that VTU colleges are charging 400rs for PDC and servicing fee, whereas we are asked to pay 1000rs. Keeping the on-going pandemic situation in mind why can’t digital copies of PDC with a digital signature from college be issued as this culture is growing in companies across India.

3)   Since the onset of this economic crash driven by the Covid-19 pandemic, many of our parents have a steep cut down in salaries/income from jobs and business and many of them have even lost their jobs, making it natural for every student to think twice before spending even a rupee. Considering the spectrum of students from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, any reduction/refund in fees would be highly beneficial.

4) Right now there is so much confusion among students regarding VTU, Supreme court, and UGC. And the hearing from SC is on Aug 10th, where they may announce the necessary steps/rules to be taken in the conduction of exams.

As students, we kindly request the management and the concerned authorities to extend the last day of payment from 5th August 2020 to 11th August 2020 which is one day after the SC hearing and also make the fees in par with VTU (We would like the online exam fees to be kept below 500rs and PDC at 400rs(or any fair price with explanation).

If the above request cannot be fulfilled, we humbly request you to justify the costs of online SEE and PDC with a detailed breakdown of charges and explanations for the same.

Thank you,

Final year students of NMIT
