Stop Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa from visiting Bodh Gaya

Because Mahinda Rajapaksa presides over a racist, dictatorial regime that is responsible for the killing of over 50,000 innocent Tamil civilians in the last days of the civil conflict in Sri Lanka in May 2009.

Letter to
Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister, Bihar, India
Dear Shri Nitish Kumar

Sub: Stop Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa from visiting Bodh Gaya

We, the undersigned, kindly request the Government of Bihar, to prevent President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa from visiting the renowned Buddhist site of Bodhgaya on 8th February 2013.
The great Lord Buddha stood for peace, justice, love and compassion and allowing this visit to happen would be tantamount to defiling the holiness of Bodhgaya forever as Mahinda Rajapaksa:
a. Presided over the massacre of 50,000 or more innocent Tamil men, women and children, in the last days of the country’s civil war in May 2009.
b. Heads a government that is accused of war crimes, crimes against humanity and even genocide. A UN Panel, in 2010, has called for a full international investigation of these crimes;
c. Currently runs a racist and fascist dictatorship in Sri Lanka that is openly discriminatory against not just Tamils but all other minority communities in the country;
d. Has violated all norms of democratic governance and human rights in Sri Lanka repeatedly, brutally murdering, abducting and torturing dissidents, both Tamil and Sinhalese.
It is our submission that failure to stop Mahinda Rajapaksa’s visit to Bodhgaya would also make your government irredeemably complicit in this blatant act of sacrilege.
The people of Bihar, the people of India, all true Buddhists and millions of Tamils around the world do not deserve this insult to their beliefs and sentiments.
