Some of the companies that make video games have a major bias towards male characters.   The problem is there are not very many playable female and non-binary characters.  We want these companies to make more female and non-binary characters.  Women represent only a little less than half of the world's population and it is only right for them to have more equal representation in video games.  For example, in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there are 74 characters, only 12 of those characters are females/girls and only 1 character can be considered non-binary.

Another example of poor representation of female and non-binary characters is Capcom's Street Fighter.  Out of a total of 113 characters in Street Fighter, only 15 of those characters are females/girls and 0 are non-binary.  Additionally, only three out of the top 20 strongest fighters are female.  In Xbox's Rayman Legends, all of the female characters have to be rescued in order to be played as normal characters.

This contributes to a larger problem with video games in general.  Many of the video games that are created show women in roles where they are helpless, need to be rescued, and are easily captured.  Likewise, there is very little representation of non-binary characters in video games.  It is important to include non-binary characters in video games because it means that we are being more inclusive, giving gamers more options, and it allows people that identify as non-binary to see themselves in video games.

Our suggestion is that companies that produce video games should add more female and non-binary characters and also make them more powerful or equal to the male characters.  Also, making more female and non-binary characters for the games will attract more female and non-binary players.  This, in turn, will generate more revenue for the companies that make video games.
