In promoting the new entry in the Pokemon franchise for Nintendo Switch, Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee! it has been revealed quite unambiguously that motion-based controls are mandatory.
While it may seem like a fun and immersive way to play, the lack of any option to play using buttons exclusively means that disabled players, and any individual with reduced or limited capacity to move around will be at a significant disadvantage, or potentially completely unable to play the game at all.
Pokemon is a franchise that brings all kinds of people together - children and adults, newcomers and veterans, abled and disabled - it feels genuinely against that philosophy of the Pokemon franchise to exclude a group of people.
The solution is simple - just give us options! Options are great; you don't have to remove the motion controls for the people who can enjoy the game with them! Just provide a simple alternative control option that can be operated completely stationary through standard, button-based controls. This is all we need to accommodate everyone!
