Mandy Hairston started this petition to Ninety Six Town Council Ninety Six Town Council and

Stop rezoning of two particular areas in the heart of Ninety Six that are being proposed for rezoning.

1.  Mark Amick of Carolina Engineering Service, LLC has requested to rezone the area behind the Fire Department in Ninety Six, R2 Low Density Residential (maximum of 18 single family homes) to R10 High Density Residential which would allow for a proposed "age-restricted, affordable housing development consisting of up to 44 units, 2 bedrooms/2 baths per unit" and a leasing office.

(The problem with the age restricted part of the above request is that it is not truly senior living.  The person on the lease has to be 55, but anyone can live with them...hence the two bedroom two bath concept.)

2.  Blue Ridge Atlantic Development, LLC has requested to rezone three parcels of land, totaling approximately 3.66 acres and located at Cambridge Street North and Rogers Street from Core Commercial (CC) and General Commercial (GC) to R15 which would allow for a proposed multi-family apartment complex consisting of 48 units and 101 parking spaces.  Two apartment buildings would be three stories and consist of two and three bedroom units.

(The problem with the above request is that it would hinder any commercial growth to our town by using Commercial Zoned land in the heart of our town for apartments.)

We are concerned that rezoning these two areas for ANYTHING other than what they are already zoned for would hurt the economic vitality of Ninety Six by obstructing the commercial growth and the preferred residential development we need to make our town succeed and prosper.  Rezoning these areas for high density residential would overwhelm our public schools, for which we are so proud of and known for, and infrastructure, as well as increase our taxes while decreasing our home values and the integrity of the neighborhood we bought into and enjoy.
