Save Hohnes Road Playhouse

After more than 40 years caring for children and supporting local families, Hohnes Road Playhouse, Eltham, is facing imminent closure due to the withdrawal of funding by Nillumbik Council. Staffed by qualified childcare workers Hohnes Road Playhouse is a one of its kind service, offering reciprocal care, and an Over 3's curated program- no other service like this exists for local families!

“We currently have 34 local families and 44 children who benefit from this incredible family space,” Hohnes Road Playhouse Co-Chair Genevieve Speechley explained.

“This service has a long standing reputation of making a significant difference in the support network for not only young children but also many parents.“

Offering arts, cooking, and outdoor play in a natural setting Hohnes Road Playhouse currently has a waitlist for its wonderful service demonstrating the demand for what it has to offer.

Local mother of two, Kathryn Francis has benefited from the positive environment for her young family Hohnes Road Playhouse has provided.

“The service is a hybrid between playgroup and occasional care, giving us the benefits of both of those plus the unique additional benefits such as the opportunity to learn from a qualified early childhood educator,” she explained.

“If Hohnes Road Playhouse is shut down there is simply no equivalent service for us to go to.”

We are lobbying Nillumbik Council to reinstate the very minimal funding they provided to ensure that future families and children can enjoy Hohnes Road Playhouse.
