Safely build the Diamond Creek to Hurstbridge Trail Now, with a rail underpass

Signers of this petition urge Nillumbik Council to safely build the Diamond Creek to Hurstbridge trail, after over a decade of inaction and delay. We urgently request that the total Trail Project Budget includes a rail underpass at the rear of Diamond Valley College to connect trail users safely to the College, Diamond Creek East Primary and Community Bank Stadium. The rail underpass will ensure safe usage of the trail so that hundreds of students and stadium users are not tempted to risk a dangerous short cut across the rail line to avoid an extra 2km journey via Diamond Creek Station to access school or sport. In 2005, hundreds of Diamond Creek, Wattle Glen and Hurstbridge kids rode an on road convoy led by the late Peter Brock to call for this trail. Those kids of 2005 are now adults but we owe it to their children and to Peter Brock's passion for safety to ensure their lives are not put at risk by failing to include a safe rail crossing. Inclusion of this rail crossing is in fact way more crucial to the success of the trail than the many creek bridge crossings that council has included for aesthetic reasons.
