As a country built on the basis of patriotism and freedom, Veteran's Day should be one of the most respected days of the year, in deference and respect of the sacrifice of OUR men and women who have served in the military. Countless of Americans have laid their lives up for our freedom and yet we do not celebrate them? It is outrageous that we celebrate labor day, a holiday which honors the American worker but we do not celebrate the day of the American soldier, who has laid up their lives for our freedom? It is very important to thank our veterans for their service to our country because our freedom has been bought by the blood and tears of forefathers. Having a day off of school could cause children who might not normally think about Veterans Day to give pause, and perhaps reflect on what people other than themselves are going through so that they can have the life they do now. I do not think that giving students this holiday off of school would further the military industrial complex, but could bring us closer as a nation.
