Diplomatic relationship is built on mutual understanding with accruing mutual benefits. No nation goes into bilateral or multilateral relationship without thinking of its national interest first. In contradistinction to the above, Nigeria appeared to be championing the course of Africa without corresponding benefit to her national interest. From independence to date even when South Africans intensified their xenophobic attacks on Nigerians, Nigeria had expended enormous amount of her national wealth on various countries in Africa. It is on record that Nigeria spent Sixty-One Billion US Dollars in fighting apartheid in South Africa. She has been in the fore front in peace keeping operations in Africa with devastating effect on her human and material resources. Yet she is not recognized by African countries that benefited from her magnanimity and therefore challenged her interest at regional and international levels.
The topical issue is the South Africans xenophobic attacks on African immigrants with Nigerians mostly affected. Xenophobic attacks, hate speech , and violence on Nigerians in South Africa has been tolerated for too long, between year 2000 to March 2008 riots exnophobia attacks left 67 people dead about 50 of which are Nigerians. In May 2008, a series of attacks left more 62 people dead; although a good number of those Millard were from other African countries and the rest makes up for Nigerians.
In 2015, another nationwide spike in xenophobic attacks against immigrants in general prompted a number of foreign governments to begin repatriating their citizens. A Pew Research poll conducted in 2018 showed that 62% of South Africans viewed immigrants as a burden on society by taking jobs and social benefits and that 61% of South Africans thought that immigrants were more responsible for crime than other groups. In similar fashions there has been attacks from 2009/2012, the April 2015 attacks which has more than 500 Nigerians displaced from their homes, the October 2015 attacks as well, in 2016 they had the Tshwane riots in March 2019 they’ve had the Durban riots carried out and very recently and the one which is ongoing presently is the South African government sponsored Joburg CBD attacks. The characteristics of this attacks are inhumane most of which consisits of maiming, burning Nigerians alive and large scale looting of Nigerian business.
We can not continue to give South African a conducive business environment when all they do is kill our Nigerian brothers living in their country I say that we NATIONALIZE ALL SOUTH AFRICAN ASSETS NOW ENOUGH IS ENOUGH OUR MUMU DONE DO!
