Relief System for Otodo Gbame residents

On the 9th of April 2017, many Nigerian youths and international students watched the horrors and atrocities imposed on nearly all Otodo Gbame residents, as they were forcefully evicted from their homes. Their homes were burnt down and we identified with their cry for help as many were shot in an attempt to escape. The Lagos State Government justified their disposition by stating it was done to forestall disaster and promote development projects. No disaster is as heinous as displacing your citizens, leaving them unprotected or placing a higher value on development projects against them. The vicious cycle of poverty will continue as more people will live in penury. In a country where more than 80 million of the population live below poverty line, it should concern us all that Otodo Gbame residents are expected to find a new settlement. The government should please provide a relief system involving housing and facilities to alleviate the sufferings of the people. The new homes being built should set precedence for renewable housing systems. By helping the Otodo Gbame residents, we can also protect the environment, making it a safe place for our generation and your grandchildren's generation. The construction of houses using rooftop solar panels or hydro power (for power and electricity), solar air conditioning (use of hot water in air conditioning system), the creation of community gardens for residents to grow healthy food independently, amongst other things are some of the future steps necessary for sustainable development.
