The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Chapter 4 protects the universal human rights which include in S. 38(1), the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. And also the 2003 Child Rights Act forbids such.
Nigeria is a secular state, and there is no state religion. And though this right is subject to S. 41 whereby the Fundamental human rights may be derogated upon in the event of war, declaration of a state of emergency and with respect to public interest or the rights of others, it is not in the public interest to impose or forbid any religious studies on any child and/or student.
Also, under the provisions of S.38(2) CFRN, parents or guardians of any student in any educational institution in Nigeria is entitled to determine the kind of religious instructions the child receives.
An attempt by the education ministry to remove Christian religious studies from the academic curriculum and make Islamic or Arabic studies compulsory or merge both Christian and Islamic religious knowledge together as RNV, Religion and National values is an interference in the enjoyment and a deprivation of the Fundamental human rights and is capable of causing anarchy and war.
