Raystede's raison d'être

Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare's governing documents state: Articles of Association, Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare

1. Objects: 1.1 The objects of the charity are

(1) To prevent and relieve cruelty to animals and to protect them from unnecessary suffering ...

which begs the question - what is NECESSARY suffering? According to these same Articles of Association, "The trustees as charity trustees have control of the charity and its property and funds." Therefore it is the trustees who decide what is necessary suffering. We can only assume that the trustees (well-meaning people who consider themselves animal lovers) believe that farming animals for food is necessary and therefore the suffering it causes is necessary. However, if we could persuade them - politely and intelligently - that animal flesh and excretions are not necessary to human health then they would be forced to acknowledge that the suffering inflicted on all farm animals (free range, organic or not) is decidedly UNNECESSARY. Once that point is demonstrated they will be required to remove all animal products from sale in their cafe in order to comply with their governing document.

"Time and time again, the commission finds that serious concerns about a charity have their root causes in weak governance. All too often trustees have failed to comply with their governing document." Debbie Steventon, Charity Commission, 16 November 2015

A charity's trustees are required to comply with its governing document. Whether or not the selling of meat, fish and dairy is lawful depends entirely on the interpretation of the words "unnecessary suffering". Please help me to convince these well meaning people that farming animals is far from necessary. Write to the trustees (below), week in, week out, until they acknowledge this basic truth: Eating animals and animal products is unnatural, unhealthy and UNNECESSARY for humans. Thank you.
