Revoke Value Added Tax

Dear Nigel, as you have been the driving force with Brexit, for which we are very grateful, I hope you will see fit to take up this petition.
As I see it, VAT is an EU tax Europewide. We used to have a tax which was charged at source, ie businesses. This VAT charge was foisted upon us as, I believe, a way of paying our subscription as a member of the EU. Either way, as we are now leaving the EU, we should not be burdened with this abominable tax. I did draw reference to this in a letter to my MP, Robert Buckland, who passed it to relevant member. The response quite astonished me, as it basically informed me that there were no plans to revoke VAT 'as it was a lucrative means of governmental income'! or words to that effect! This is clearly an unfair (if not illegal, once we Brexit) burden upon consumers and needs to be looked at in greater detail.
