Ban Single Use Plastic Bags in Omaha, Nebraska

This petition had 249 supporters

Single use plastics are detrimental to our society and our planet. They instill a sense of impermanence that negates the fact that the plastic bag you are using one time is going to be around for the next five centuries. The single use plastic in our lives are convenient, but do not promote a culture of care for our planet-- plastic isn't biodegradable, it isn't natural and many plastics contain BPAs that inevitably make it into our drinking water. (8 mill tons leak into our oceans every year!)

HOW CAN YOU HELP? Refuse single use plastic. Bring a reusable bag to the grocery store or opt for paper bags should you forget, be more aware of the plastics you're purchasing and if they're easily recyclable, use a Klean Kanteen or Swell bottle in lieu of single use plastic water bottles. #RefuseSingleUsePlastic

We can start with banning single use plastic bags in our city. It's been done in California and Seattle, let's get on board and rid our city of excessive waste. I am asking our Mayor, Jean Stothert to consider this petition in order to promote positive change within Omaha. Please consider signing and enabling the betterment of our community!
