Antonio Onofrio started this petition to Nicola Sturgeon and

Call centres are breeding grounds for the spread of viruses, bacteria and contagions. Call centres pose a serious risk to the increased spread of COVID-19.

Call centres staff are being told that they are all essential and to return to their offices with many not offering even basic hand sanitizers nevermind PPE. (I am aware that these need to be given to NHS staff primarily - which I agree with - however this still leaves 10s of thousands at risk daily).

Essential call centre staff would be anyone providing a service medically, socially I.e delivering food or physically. This includes anyone from food suppliers to NHS staff to online webchat or call centres staff that are able to work safely from home.

Those being forced into a call centre that has minimal benefits (collections, debt recovery, basic customer services, informational departments--non medical, social or food support are not essential), are being forced to choose between their livelihoods and their families, many of the people working in these centres have family who are most at risk whether that is elderly that live with them, young children, partners or those with existing medical conditions. The people who choose their families are being left unable to claim for the government's 80% wage help scheme as their companies are still open. These families are beginning to slowly fall into debt.

I believe that for the better of both the health of everyone and the families we all fight for everyday, that we close all call centres and only have these companies open if they can provide a facility to work from home. This will in turn help to reduce the strain on our NHS, give families more quality time together, provide a safer environment and help to promote the country all working together. Thank you all who have taken the time to read this and signed up.
