Courses like this educate and encourage writers. The cultural and economic importance of such courses should not be underestimated, and its benefits extend beyond creative writing (lawyers, scientists and many professionals also need these skills).

English alone focuses far too much on the structural side of writing. The creative writing questions in English language papers are marked on what language features you use as opposed to creative skill and originality. We don't need writers who can use language devices, we need writers with originality.

I'm signing this because, having worked with writers in schools as Director of the Poetry Society, Booktrust and if:book UK, I know how valuable training in creative writing can be.

I'm signing because I believe not enough is done to encourage creativity and writing. We now live in an age where digital literacy and general literacy is essential in order to lead a connected and fulfilled life.

Online content needs writers; online booksellers need writers; communities need writers.

This A level, will additionally, provide students with a stepping stone to studying journalism, writing, screenwriting, media studies and the arts at university.
I can see no sense whatsoever in abolishing this A level and urge the government to rethink.

Having just finished a BA English degree at university, I believe the chance to have studied Creative Writing as an A Level would have been abundantly helpful.

I'm signing because It has always been my dream, as well as others, to be able to write stories and poetry and pursue their passion through words. To deny someone the chance of experiencing something as wonderful as this is disgraceful.

It's ridiculous and unacheivable. Also extremely unfair. Especially as the GCSE's are already becoming increasingly harder with the recent changes.
