My name is Jackie Brealy. On 12th October last year my middle son Paul, aged 24, and was killed when the car he was travelling in went up and over an embankment and fell 15ft into a swollen river below, landing upside down. The car wasn’t found until the next morning approximately 8 hrs after it had crashed. Paul was a passenger and the driver, aged 25, also lost his life. My life and my family’s life changed forever that day, and I have to live with the fact that I couldn’t do anything to save my child. I can, however, do something to try and save YOUR child, and that is why I have set up this organisation called P-A-U-L-Y, which stands for ‘Parents All United Lifesaving Youngsters’.

DID YOU KNOW THAT IN BRITAIN:

Every year more than 430 people are killed in road accidents involving young car drivers aged 17-24 years, this includes over 150 young car drivers, 90 passengers and more than 180 other road users.

Every day 2,000 people are injured and our roads and 6 of them die.

1 out of every 3 people who die on our roads is under 25.

1 in 5 young drivers has a crash within 6 months of passing their Driving Test

One fifth of all new drivers will have a serious collision in the first 5 years of driving.

26,500 drivers under the age of 25 are disqualified every year.

On average every child spends at least 12 yrs in education so that they can leave school as responsible and independent young adults. After leaving school, the next biggest step in the most of their young lives is learning to drive, and yet up to that time most of them will not have learned anything about road safety and awareness of the Highway Code and how to stay alive on the road.

Experts say that the reason 1 in 3 of all people who die on the roads is under 25, is because younger drivers are more likely to take risks. The trouble is that they don’t know how to cope with those risks, especially if something goes wrong, because they have had little or no experience of dealing with such things.

No sooner has a 17year old passed his Driving Test, when they are promptly put in charge of a 2 tonne steel and glass framed vehicle and issued with a licence to kill either themselves, their passenger’s, other road users or all three.

PLEASE sign the petition and help me to save young lives, losing a child is any parent's worst nightmare. It changes your life forever and too many parents are having to go through this nightmare because of our failure to provide young people with the right guidance, tuition, information and experience to stay alive and safe.
