Far too many children with Autism are unable to access suitable education as their time in school becomes disrupted. Many parents of children with Autism in mainstream schools, are asked to collect their child if teachers are unable to deal effectively with autistic behaviours and in many cases children suffer long term illegal exclusions. Special schools cannot be accessed without an EHCP in place and the application and appeals processes are long and complicated. It is unacceptable that children with Autism are not able to access education that is suitable for their needs and this is setting them up for failure. We ask that our children are able to access a suitable education with teachers who fully understand their needs. All children have a right to an education and should not suffer discrimination because of behaviours caused by their disability.
