In recent years we have all seen the news and the articles of grass fires being started on our mountainsides deliberately; and more recently the ongoing grass fire on Cwm Celyn Mountain in South Wales. There are several major issues that are caused as a result of arsonsists committing these horrible crimes, not only is this a huge danger to residents and people living in towns/villages near these fires but also it’s a huge hazard to people’s homes, possessions, pets and other such items that are bought with hard earned money; Furthermore causing devastation to wildlife, habitats and our green green grass of home. Also another issue is the the cost that comes with dealing with these fires. In hot weather fire can spread rapidly and can be hard to extinguish; however, solutions to such cost us as tax payers thousands if not hundreds of thousands to set our fire services out to combat these. As per my own opinion and likely the opinion of many others I believe that the penalty/punishment for the arsonists that cause these devastations should be increased or altered not only to try and defer yobs and troublemakers from doing so but also to protect the people, protect their homes and protect their possessions. No one deserves to be troubled by ongoing fires that provide a risk to everyone.
